Linux Hosting vs Windows Hosting: Which One Is Right For You?

You may already know that when hosting a website, the operating system of the server where your website files are stored can either be Windows or Linux. When people browse the Internet it does not really matter what system is utilized for hosting your website. The output of the files from your server is generally translated into HTML so that any many browsers will see your website and so will Internet users.

What is the difference between Linux and Windows hosting?

It all comes down to ASP and APS.net related files and applications. If you are absolutely sure that your website will be made utilizing these files and applications then your choice should be Windows hosting. The simplest way to find out whether or not you will need Windows hosting is to make sure that your files end up with an ASP extension. If your index file name is index.asp instead of index.html or index.php than you need Windows hosting.

Many people may think that if your home computer is running Windows that you will also need a Windows hosting plan for your website, which is absolutely incorrect. It all comes down to a server side scripting language, specifically when it comes to ASP. so the answer is simple if you need ASP you need Windows hosting, otherwise Linux hosting will work for you.

Grants available for arts activities

The Rosemount Area Arts Council is small, but in its short lifespan the group has accomplished quite a bit – a film festival, bluegrass festival, photo contest and author visits at the Robert Trail Library.

RAAC members would like to see more arts-related events come to Rosemount, but the small group has its hands full. So they decided to create a grant that could help others hosts arts related events.

This year RAAC will give out five $100 grants to persons or organizations interested in hosting an arts event. the event can be just about anything arts related. the only stipulation is that the money needs to be used for supplies and expenses, not payment to an artist, said RAAC member John Loch.

“Supplies, rental costs and advertising would be examples of expenses that are acceptable,” said Loch.

The idea for the RAAC grants actually came out of the Loch family. John’s daughter-in-law Melissa Loch wanted to host an inexpensive craft event but didn’t have a good way to do it inexpensively. As the first recipient of a RAAC grant she will be able to offer a craft night later this summer.

John Loch said by providing grants to the community RAAC can bring more arts events to Rosemount without having to do all the planning and grunt work.

“We are a small group doing a lot of things,” said Loch. “This allows us to bring art programming into the community without doing all the work.”

Loch said he hopes people will take advantage of the four remaining grants available.

The process to apply for a grant is simple. Interested people or organizations can apply by filling out a one page form providing basic information such as: name and details of the event including type of project, expected number of participants, location and cost.

The application deadline is at the minimum 30 days prior to the event. A grant review board will review the proposal and then recommend to the full RAAC board whether to approve the grant and the board will vote. the applicant would then submit a final report within in 30 days after the event along with copies of expenses. Recipients cannot receive more than one grant per year.

Forms can be obtained from any RAAC board member. They will be available soon on the RAAC website. For additional information visit www.rosemountaac.org, email inforaac@yahoo.com or call 651-600-8693.
