I am in my eighth year in this industry. for the past three years, I have written the life stories of big people—the likes of business tycoon Manny Pangilinan, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, NBA star Kobe Bryant, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, the Mayor of Canada, Reyfort Media Group President Rey Fortaleza, Mistress of Style Pin Antonio, beauty doctor to the stars Manny Calayan, Skin Specialist Dr. Jean Marquez, celebrities like Valerie Concepcion, Regine Tolentino, will Devaughn, Amir Agassi, Cheri Mercado, Giselle Sanchez, Boy Abunda and many others.
for several years, I vowed to never write anything that may defame someone or ruin anyone’s reputation. After all, public relations, by definition, means the professional maintenance of a favorable public image. I build up my clients’ good name, not tear down others’.
last week, I wrote an article after my good friend Anne Curtis’ hit movie no other Woman. It was about Jinkee, the wife of pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and her reaction towards the latest scandal that her husband is facing. The article never said anything negative about Jinkee or the situation she is in. It sought to shed light on what she felt about the issue. It was written with utmost consideration to her feelings.
Due to the credits of the article, others grabbed the story— – GMA, TV5, ABS-CBN, websites and newspapers. Over the weekend, my phone never stopped ringing or beeping. Vanni, the owner of my webhost partner QTech Solutions at sportmanil.net called to ask if we can bring down the article because the million hits slow down the entire site. I might need to get a bigger package next time.
my successful PR campaigns include former Senator Nikki Coseteng’s Great Peace and Unity Swim last year and her filing of a case against the President of Philippine Aquatic Sports Association and PAGCOR officials at the Office of the Ombudsman last June. and now this.
It was not even a PR campaign. It was merely an article. I am not the publicist of the Pacquiaos, but I have been writing articles about Manny Pacquiao, Jinkee and twin sister Janet for the past three years because they are an interesting bunch and the Filipinos love them. If you check my Pacquiao articles, they are sidelight stories, human interest articles and lifestyle features.
I cover MP’s fights paying my own expenses. I personally look for sponsors for my airfare and accommodation; those who always support me financially are PLDT’s Manny Pangilinan, Dodie Lucas and Myla Villanueva, Mang Inasal’s Injap Sia, Dr. Manny and Pie Calayan, PCSO chair Margie Juico and husband Philip, former Senator Nikki and Councilor Kate Coseteng. I have never received a single cent from Manny or Jinkee, I never ask for anything. what do I gain when I covered Pacquiao’s fights and events? Just satisfaction and fulfillment of a passion.
my mentors, Ricky Lo of Philippine Star, Isah V. Red of Manila Standard Today, Isabel De Leon of Manila Bulletin Lifestyle and veteran sports journalist Eddie Alinea, have taught me good work ethics that I always practice when I contribute articles to Philstar, Manila Standard, Malaya and Manila Bulletin.
The ripples of reaction brought about by the article made me realize how millions of people from around the globe love Jinkee and Manny, it showed me that Filipinos are still conservative and sensitive about marital issues, it proved to me that our people still hold strong values about family.
The People’s Champ is idolized because of his rise from poverty, having a big heart for his kababayans, being proud to be Filipino, and for his deep religiosity. Jinkee is loved because she is seen as a loving and loyal wife, a wonderful mother and homemaker, and a beautiful example to Filipinas.
at the moment, I am grieving the loss of a beloved family member. I prefer not to leave, but I know I have to as I need to rejuvenate my mind. I am leaving on Nov. 4 for the 4th Chicago International Taekwondo Winter Games at Norridge, Illinois then I will fly to Vegas for the Pacquiao-Marquez fight.
Jinkee Pacquiao has offered to give away her expensive Hermes bag to anyone who can prove that her husband has a recent affair?
Now, do I deserve one? or, maybe I should just head to Greenhills and get myself one.
