Cpanel Hosting – User Friendly and Feature Packed

If you have a web hosting account, chances are it includes some type of interface known as a control panel. some of the more popular web hosting control panels include Plesk, Ensim, H-Sphere and cPanel. CPanel certainly has the most market share and for good reason, it is the most user-friendly, comprehensive web hosting control panel available.

Back in the ancient days of web hosting, if you needed to add a POP account or create a sub-domain, you needed to telnet into the server and type a command or request that a server admin do this for you. this type of functionality has long ago been replaced by control panels like cPanel. Nowadays, anyone with a cPanel hosting account can simply log-in to the web based interface and in a few clicks set up a POP account or an email forwarder or even an autoresponder.

Email functionality is just the tip of the iceberg with cPanel. once you’re logged in to your cPanel hosting interface, you can use it to create additional FTP accounts, mySQL Databases or a range of other services. If you need to create subdomains or add-on domains for example, that functionality is built right in. In just a few clicks you can complete tasks that would have required a thorough understanding of UNIX commands.

One of the more convenient portions of the cPanel hosting interface is the scripts installation area. here you can install software directly into your cPanel hosting account with just a few easy clicks. Whether it’s a WordPress Blog or a Guestbook program or a simple web page counter, it doesn’t get much easier than the point and click simplicity that cPanel offers.

To make things even simpler for those of you new to cPanel hosting, the latest version of cPanel even includes video tutorials for each section of its interface. now it’s possible for even the newest of newbies to sit down at his or her computer and be taken by the hand, step-by-step through the cPanel interface to complete whatever tasks they need to accomplish. We’ve come a long way baby

You’re certainly welcome to host your site with a company that uses a control panel other than cPanel, but I think you’re missing out on quite a bit of functionality and ease of use. CPanel hosting plans will offer you the most user friendly, feature rich web hosting experience available today.

Windows Hosting versus Linux Hosting – Which is right for you?

There are literally hundreds of thousands of web hosting companies out there. Many of these companies offer both Windows hosting and Linux hosting plans. Windows plans usually cost more because of the license costs imposed by Microsoft. Knowing this, how can you know when you need Windows hosting and when Linux hosting will work just as well or better? Keep reading to find out.

Windows operating systems are found on something like 95% of all personal computers in the world. With such a total dominance, Microsoft Windows is top of mind to most new people looking for web hosting.

In the web server world though, Windows based servers are behind less than 20% of all websites on the internet. This is according to the latest web server survey from securityspace.com. By choosing a Linux hosting plan, you will find yourself in good company.

When do you have to use Windows Hosting?

1. .NET technologies including ASP.net are not available on Linux platforms. if you have a website built with Microsoft .NET technologies you will have to choose a Windows hosting plan. in fact, if you need ASP without .NET features, most Linux hosting plans do not offer support for it.

2. Access Databases are only available with a Windows hosting plan. Access runs on a Microsoft Windows platform and cannot run on a Linux Operating system.

3. MSSQL is an enterprise class database put out by Microsoft. if you need an enterprise class database there are some alternatives that run on a Linux platform but if you need Microsoft’s MSSQL database, a Windows hosting plan will have to be your choice.

4. if you are using Microsoft’s Sharepoint services like some of the Sharepoint features found in Frontpage 2003, a Windows Hosting plan is your only choice.

What is the advantage to choosing Linux Hosting?

All the major services you need to run an enterprise class website are available on Linux based systems for free. Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP are being used together to provide the infrastructure behind some of the most traffic intensive sites on the internet.

PHP runs better on a Linux server than on a Windows server. Having said that, unless you are putting a heavy load on your PHP scripts, this will not be noticable.

In general, Linux hosting plans are at least 20% cheaper than Windows hosting plans. if you don’t need any of the features mentioned above, Linux hosting is a fine choice for your needs.

For Microsoft specific technologies, Windows hosting plans are usually your best bet. For everthing else, Linux hosting plans will usually do quite well. With the cost savings usually found with Linux hosting plans, Linux hosting is usually the right choice for you.

Parallels Automation Puts Service Providers on the Fast Track to Deliver Microsoft Office 365 Services

Press Release Source: Parallels On Monday July 11, 2011, 9:00 am EDT

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Hosting and cloud service enablement leader Parallels® today announced syndication for Microsoft Office 365 through its flagship Parallels Automation. Parallels Automation automates delivery, provisioning, and billing of service delivery, and this support will now extend to Office 365.

Building on Parallels’ years of experience and success in helping Microsoft partners derive profit from the cloud, this represents the fastest way for service providers to bring Office 365 to the market and accelerate time to revenue and profitability.

as small businesses continue to increase their adoption of cloud based services, service providers must develop a full service offering to meet this considerable opportunity and profit from the cloud. With $40 billion in IT spend moving to the cloud in just the next three years (IDC, June 2010), service providers have a tremendous opportunity to capitalize on this shift by offering customers Office 365 bundled with other services.

the market is highly competitive and making an offering available as soon as possible is critical for success in the syndication of Office 365 as partners rush to make services available. Using Parallels Automation will let these service providers create and deploy Office 365 quickly and reliably, reducing time to market from many months to a few weeks.

the benefits of using Parallels Automation to deliver syndicated Office 365 to customers include the ability to:

  • Launch services in weeks rather than months
  • Integrate with existing operational and business support systems leveraging a set of open APIs
  • Deliver hundreds of integrated IaaS and SaaS cloud services with a single automated platform

“By providing a single delivery system that supports hundreds of cloud services, Parallels Automation enables you to automate the entire process of creating a new offering, thereby reducing your operating expenses. Building on our long-term relationship with Microsoft, we have created an integrated solution to help service providers quickly bring the new Office 365 services to market,” said Jack Zubarev, President, Marketing and Alliances, Parallels.

“AppRiver chose Parallels Business Automation to help simplify account management for new customers signing up for our Microsoft Office 365 bundled offering,” said Scott Paul, project manager with AppRiver. “Working with Parallels, we were able to quickly implement a solution that delivers swift provisioning and management of the Office 365 platform. With Parallels Business Automation in place, AppRiver is free to focus on delivering the high quality service our customers deserve.”

“With Office 365, small and midsize businesses can get the latest productivity technology in a single cloud service,” said David Scult, General Manager, Online Services Partner Marketing at Microsoft. “Enabling service providers to offer Office 365 through Parallels Automation will help deliver this new service to SMBs.”

“Many of our customers, particularly in the SMB market, are eager to leverage products in the cloud such as Office 365. Parallels Automation ensures that we can not only bring Office 365 to our customers quickly, but also bundle it with the additional cloud services we offer,” said Jesper Bak Olesen, CEO at TDC Hosting.

“The Microsoft Syndication contract offers KPN unique advantages in comparison with most of our competitors, concerning customer, billing and reseller relations. Using the Parallels platform, we can pass these advantages on to multiple KPN business lines and KPN brands without losing the ability to make a distinction between customers of these different parties. the Parallels platform allows us to easily up-sell from Office 365 to other bundles complete with domain and webhosting or other applications. not having to develop our own provisioning software to connect with the Microsoft O365 platform saves money and valuable development resources,” said Omar Benameur, Director of Online Software at KPN.

“The Parallels Automation/Office 365 integration, developed in co-operation with Microsoft and designed specifically for service providers, is an example of the close collaboration between two organizations committed to allowing service providers and, by extension, customers profit from the cloud,” notes Zubarev.
