The gap seemingly narrowed at the top of the Class 4A state girls soccer rankings after the top three teams all played to a tie in league action last week.
The top three might be on a more precarious perch with what appears to be some state-wide parity.
No. 1 Kentwood stayed atop the rankings despite a scoreless draw with Kentlake in South Puget Sound League (SPSL) North Division play on Saturday, following a 5-0 win over Jefferson on Tuesday.
No. 2 Beamer played to a 2-2 tie with Curtis on Tuesday and then came back with a 3-0 triumph over Federal Way on Saturday. Jenny Hoefel’s second goal of the night in the 41st minute knotted the game with Curtis at 2-2 and it remained that way the rest of the match.
No. 3 Skyline beat Ballard 2-0 on Tuesday before tying 1-1 with Bothell on Thursday. Jackie Wilson’s goal in the 47th minute was the equalizer for the Spartans.
In the 3A rankings, there was no movement in the top seven with Southridge, Seattle Prep and Everett leading the way.
Hazen remained unbeaten at 8-0-2 and climbed to no. 8 from no. 10 in its second week of being in the 3A rankings. Camas returned to the top 10 at no. 10 after a pair of early-season losses knocked them out.
In 4A, Snohomish made its top 10 debut at no. 9 after moving to 10-1-0. Issaquah, after a slow start to the season, improved to 7-3-1 and made a return to the top 10.
Central Valley of Spokane made a strong debut in the top 10 of 4A at no. 5 after a string of big victories. The Bears host no. 4 Lewis & Clark at 4 p.m. on Friday.
No. 1 Kentwood faces an improving Kentridge team (6-2-1), and now among those teams on the bubble in 4A, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
A big KingCo 4A clash will be on Tuesday, Oct. 18 as traditional powers Skyline and Issaquah face off at 7:30 p.m.
In WesCo 4A, Snohomish and Lake Stevens meet in the season finale on Oct. 26 at Snohomish at 7 p.m. and that could decide the North Division title.
Undefeated Seattle Prep, no. 2 in the 3A ranks, faces the only team to put a tie on its record on Tuesday, hosting Lakeside at 3:30 p.m.
The Panthers close out the Metro League season against no. 7 Holy Names on Oct. 20 at home.
In SPSL 3A, the showdown of top teams is Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. and that likely will decide the regular-season league crown. no. 4 Bonney Lake hosts no. 6 Auburn Mountainview on that date. Auburn Mountainview won the first meeting on Oct. 29 by a 2-1 count.
