Public Green wins Battle of the Bands
The inaugural High School Battle of the Bands competition on Friday was a “great success,” event chairwoman Connie Salerno reported.
The band Public Green won a $500 recording session at On the Fringe Recording Studios in West Newbury, a CryBaby Classic Wah pedal and $100 cash. the audience selected the winner.
The Amesbury-based ska/rock band includes Jake Martin on vocals and guitar, Jeremy Curran on drums, James Sheridan on bass and backup vocals, and Noah Malonson on backup vocals and alto saxophone.
“The musicians offered a mix of styles,” Salerno said. “They all had their own wonderful talents to offer. I hope it becomes a regular tradition that everyone can look forward to.”
Vendors keeping busy
With comfortable temperatures under bright blue skies this week, the numerous food vendors around Yankee Homecoming are being kept busy.
Gram’s Ice Cream set up their slush stand at Old-Fashioned Sunday on the Bartlet Mall, employee Steve Serwon said, and he doled out between 300 to 400 cups between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
And what was the most popular flavor?
“Watermelon,” he said.
At Boston Chowda co., festival-goers were also proving that clam chowder is a perfect meal choice in any season. People tend to order it as a combo meal with a lobster roll, said Lindsay Rosado, as she manned the booth in Market Square.
At night, when temperatures cool down, orders for clam chowder in bread bowls go up, she added.
